Katrina Higham has been in the VET sector for over a decade, managing RTOs, working in SSOs, Industry Associations and in auditing and compliance across the country. She was awarded the Training Initiative Award from the Tourism Training Australia for the development of menu-based resources and lead the development and delivery of the first COVID-safe micro-credential in Australia. Prior to working in the VET sector, Katrina started her career in the hospitality industry as a chef and pastry chef by trade in Melbourne’s fine dining restaurant scene and then owning her own her own award-winning cafe in Windsor.

Aaron Hines

With over 15 years’ experience in the for-profit and not-for-profit Vocational Education and Training Sector, Aaron has successfully led registered training organisations across various industry sectors.
Aaron was previously the Director, ARA Retail Institute, Owner/CEO, Fluent Education, General Manager, Builders Academy Australia and Regional Manager, Navitas Professional. Aaron was the chair of the Industry Reference Committee (Retail/Wholesale), and member of NSW WRAPS IRC, VIC Services IAG, QLD Retail IAG and other education and industry committees.

To meet current and future needs of industry, qualifications need to be designed in a way that aligns with the needs and aspirations of the learner for occupational transferability, whether that is continuing to develop their skills in one sector or having transferrable skills that develop adaptability across different industries. In this presentation, Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) will discuss the considerations applied to the designing of training products, as well as step through a two-staged high-level framework that was developed in response to identifying opportunities for reform. The Shaping Service Skills Framework was designed to enable individuals to reimagine lifelong education and training while offering flexible pathways to support career progression and meet industry needs.
